| Matt Hill is a vocalist/ guitarist/bassist carrying on the deep Chicago Blues style with a touch of Boogie Woogie, Rockabilly, and a little Rock and Roll. Matt likes to play what some people call "mean old nasty sh!t." Matt fronts his own band called The Buzzkills and also acts as a sideman with fellow North Carolinian Matt Walsh. Recently Matt has been lending his guitar skills to Gina Sicilia (2008 Blues Music Awards nominee-"Best New Artist) out of Philadelphia. At the age of 19 Matt won the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society's Blues Challenge, and represented the PBPS in the international competition in Memphis. Matt has also been featured in Blues Review Magazine in an article written by good friend Bob Margolin. The article provided an insight into the minds of young bluesmen that featured Matt and good friend Matt Walsh. Matt has shared the stage with such Blues legends as Bob Margolin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Big Jack Johnson, Bob Stroger and Carey Bell. He has also shared the bill with artists such as the Holmes Brothers, Duwayne Burnside, Micheal Burks, Betty Lavette, John Dee Holeman, and Bo Didley to name a few. Quotes: "...Hill stuns audiences with his raw and completely uninhibited playing, singing and sometimes incoherent commentary for the full 3 hours. - Mike Floyd (Borderline Magazine) "...they love Old School Chicago Blues and have both already gone a long way towards playing it with authentic tone and command of the guitar language. Both of them can sing it too, and improve every time I hear them. They are young today and will keep this style alive on bandstands and preserve it as and preserve it as more than history. They may develop so much themselves that they carry the style forward with their own contributions." - Bob Margolin ( former guitarist for Muddy Waters band, writer and columnist for Blues Revue magazine. Excerpt from Blues Revue Aug/Sept 2006 on Matt Walsh and Matt Hill ) |
